So you have what might be called a "psychologistic" view of the process of intellectual argumentation in which the attempt to elicit and isolate logical contradictions is subordinated to the project of not eliciting the moment in which any participant to a theoretical discussion comes to see that his or her position re a principle isolated by a hypothetical may need reconfiguring.

No one was, or ever is, in using hypotheticals, proposing that they are real world Live-By Maxims. They serve a different purpose, though they may assist, of course, in the development of constructive thought, or plans.
