MNI, my friend has showed me pictures of Trier and it does look like a very beautiful place. She also told me, only after knowing me for a long time, that one of her relatives, I think a grandfather, was a soldier for Hitler. When the grandfather realized that Hitler would be defeated, he put a gun to his own head and committed suicide. I got the impression that this subject would not be talked about at all, in her home. And she was very careful to tell me, only after we had been friends for a good number of years. I would imagine that this was a source of shame for the family. As well as I know her now, I think that falling in love and marrying an American soldier made her feel that she was being rescued in some way. She misses her family and the beautiful place where she lived. But not the lifestyle. I can remember one incident that struck me as being funny. Her sister had come here to visit. She invited me and my husband for dinner to meet her sister. At that time my husband was driving one of the biggest Cadiillacs you could possibly imagine. After dinner the sister gave me her camera, and asked me to take a picture of her sitting in the driver's seat, pretending that she was driving the car. She told me her friends at home would be very impressed when they saw the picture. If you do not know anything about the 'Jerry Springer Show', count yourself lucky. The only thing you're missing is the filth and sleaze of society. Conccerning the reunification, I personally thought it was a wonderful victory for freedom. This is why my friend's reaction surprised me. Maybe some other time, if you don't mind talking about it, I would be curious to know your perspective about the reunification, since you said it was very different than my friend's view. If you would rather not discuss it, I respect your privacy. I read the links about the movie, and it sounds very interesting. Thanks, C Kahn P.S. In case you didn't know, truedog asked me to let everybody know that he is very ill and in the hospital. I think we are all praying for him. He said, in his absence, he didn't want anybody to think he turned yellow and ran. As it is not his style. He also gave me a brief message for gus. But I won't repeat it unless gus wants to know.
