oooh, unclewest, that one whizzed right by me. That would be so funny if RMBS got royalties on DDRDRAM......

Go DDRDRAM!!!

uncle,

Here's the question about patents. I signed up for the free trial membership and don't want to copy the whole thing since Marcy may be reading and ding me on copyright protection <g>.

TSC: We've heard that double-data-rate DRAMs may be based in part on Rambus technology. If, under a worst case scenario, the industry adopts DDR and abandons Rambus, do you have patent rights on it that hedge your bets?

GT: We've made no comment on whether DDR infringes our patents. We frankly have had a hard time getting DDR samples. Our position is there is insufficient data. But every Rambus DRAM is basically a double-data-rate part. We transfer data on both edges of the clock and we were the first to do so.

Re: dan3 is really gonna be upset

Dan3's cat looks like it may make it, and he's happy for you rambus longs, but hopes you'll try to remember to view both sides of the issue.

Tomorrow may be different (or, maybe not!)

Dan

uncle, if there is a shred of truth in that, than it is worst than royalties, treble damage could come into the equation. Who are the violators? Are they also licensees or RMBS? I would presume that only DRAM manufacturers are doing the DDR DRAM thing, and most of these guys are licensees of RMBS. If they are, I do not see what the problem is, after all, a rose by any other name (call it RDRAM or DDR DRAM)...
