Measured risks, DA. Carefully measured risks. By all means, reserve some vacation time for the manual.

Devil's Advocate,

I fail to see how you will reap rewards without taking risks.

The issue is not whether rewards can be reaped without taking risk. The issue is how to maximize rewards while at the same time limiting risk.

I fear that you're going to find yourself in the middle of some antagonistic conversation if you continue attempting to engage people who have read and reread "the manual." You're very welcome here, but you'll have to understand that our frame of reference is the manual.

You haven't had the benefit of reading it. We understand that you may not have the time until your vacation in a couple months. Until then, you might need to lay a little low, though don't feel that you have to disappear.

DA: The guys are being just a bit tough on you, but you should know that it is actually very well intended. Compared to many other threads, you've still got a full hide. Be glad.

The counsel to RTFM is rock solid. Most of us have read it, and the three companions...."Chasm", "Tornado" (by Moore) and "Dilemma" (by Christensen). In one way or another, most of us here have marketing and sales backgrounds, as opposed to your engineering. We really do have a different perspective, and predictably I suppose, most of us have seen in our real business life what these two authors are talking about, so to us, this is real world material.

Mike's response that we take calculated risks is right. By using the Gorilla Game approach, we're stacking the house's cards in our favor. That's why you see so few companies listed in our portfolios. If you've followed the thread for any length of time, you've seen some "nominations" get accepted and others get shot full of holes. Think of it this way....you design (I presume) and are familiar with product specs. We do too, but we use Gorilla specs. Take the book on your vacation, and by all means come back to us fully up to speed. We could (will) probably put you to work interpreting technical stuff that most of us (me, esp.) couldn't begin to grasp...

BTW, gao seng, hope you catch this as well.

Well. I'll come back here when I know more about your game. (The gorilla game).

Good luck to all!
