"I can only assume, is it not correct, that all of these companies were fully reporting companies who, due to whatever reasons, Chapter 11 or other, were not qualified to remain on the exhange on which they were trading."

Sorry, but you know what assuming gets you. I suggest, if you are interested in knowing what is really going on, that you do some research. Your assumption is a blanket generalization which is not correct.

Oh for the record, the claim in that article that none of the "garbage pit" stocks submit audited financial reports is also a lie of such monumental proportions it is mind boggling.

Read the 15c2-11 requirements. Audited financials is one of the requirements. They are reviewed in detail by the NASD. I know, I've had to help clients prepare responses to questions from the NASD about the financials (usually it has been for clarification of statements in the notes). I've also had to help clients assemble detailed explanations of who owns control shares and how they obtained those shares. Anyone who suggests the NASD is not on the ball in this regard is demonstrating an ignorance that is of toxic waste dump proportions.

Of course that is not the same as filing a Form 10.

You really should take a look at the Pink Sheet book your broker has. It is quite an education. I think you'll find after doing some research that 99% of the "garbage pit" comments you run into are based on (a) ignorance, (b) bitterness over a bad experience (aka ignorance--investing based on greed, not research), (c) not knowing what they are talking about (aka ignorance), and (d) all of the above.

The pinks aren't for everyone...neither is the NYSE, the OTCBB, the commodity markets, the bond market, foreign markets, etc. Risk tolerance, amount of money available to invest, temperment, amount of time available to do research, etc., all these factors play a part in determining which particular way to gamble, er invest, in what markets makes the most sense for each individual. And, don't forget, no matter what investment vehicle one chooses, they are all a gamble -- Real Estate, Gold, Stocks, all of them.

BTW, You'll NEVER hear the bashers giving those kinds of explanations, or helpful advice. All they like doing is attacking investors, and repeating negative rumors, not to mention repeatedly making connections that don't connect.

hope this helps!
