Stocks Seek Higher Ground After Post-Fed Stumble?

thestreet.com

Excerpt:

Positive sentiment may have been boosted a bit by relatively
friendly statement that the Fed released after yesterday's
meeting, which emphasized the degree to which the hike
should head inflation off at the pass. The dovish view is being
bolstered today by a Washington Post article by John Berry,
who writes that "a number of Fed officials also believe growth
is slowing enough" to stay Alan Greenspan's hand for the
rest of 1999.

Ultimately, though, the economic data will rule, and there
aren't any hugely important numbers forthcoming this week,
though Berry's "number of Fed officials" will find plenty to
watch in next week's Chicago Purchasing Manager's
Index and National Association of Purchasing Managers
report.

** What I did Today **

I am selling into this rally. ETEC, for example, is going to post earnings after the bell. I am in a profit protecting mode here and since my bottom fish into this puppy paid over 50% in four months time, I decided to take the money and run. ASYT was upgraded and I sold one third of my position into the upgrade. CYMI got excited and so I decided to sell some at $33. Sold some Tandy as well. I am looking forward to tomorrow to sell some more.

I am not buying this bond move. I think the probabilities favor that the Fed. will be back in the market soon enough. I am not saying they will raise rates. Who knows what these guys are going to do. They don't even know because they need the data. But I do believe at some point within the next few months the probabilities favor that the labor market and/or inflation will become an issue to the market again and that the market will be in a will-he-or-won't-he mode and will correct accordingly.
