Online E-investors to grow & not by day traders (ie.. once domain of savvy rapid-fire stock traders). According to Gomez Advisors and polling firm Harris Interactive, today there are 5.1 million online investors with 11.2 million accounts at over 140 web-brokerages. Some 3.5 million people ----of whom 660,000 have no brokerage accounts--- plan to open online accounts in the next six months. As a result, E-investors to grow 66% to 8.6 million in a half a year. ( Of course, Sch will benefit the most since most investors are not rapid-fire traders. )

Well, I tried Velocity, and I can tell you that its current incarnation is in no danger of escaping earth into trading orbital paradise. Multiple account is nice, but all those damn update buttons drive me nuts--I don't want to click to get a reward. Why can't they have automatic update, say every minute or so? Order status screen doesn't give you the price at which an order is filled. There is no 'Change in Value' column in the Position screen. The Position Total doesn't subtract out the margin loan balance to reveal your true equity. The Marimba engine is slow on my machine a Dell Dimension Pentium II 266Mhz with 128Mb(!) of RAM and 15Gb(!) of hard disk space; there is this annoying pause whenever you switch the program back into focus from some other window; in general there's an annoying pause whenever I click on a different tab.

They need to do better. But maybe I'm just too demanding.
