Here is another way of looking at those number in the theatres this last weekend. I made a simple calculation, dividing the gross receipts by the number of theatres.: Sixth Sense -- $8910/theatre (3rd week) Bowfinger -- $3905/theatre (2nd week) Mickey Blue Eyes -- $3955/theatre (1st week) Runaway Bride -- $2859/theatre (4th week) The Blair Witch -- $2862/theatre (6th week) The Thomas Crown Affair -- $2887/theatre (3rd week) Universal Soldier, The Return -- $2809/theatre (1st week) Inspector Gadget -- $2013/theatre (5th week) Deep Blue Sea -- $1772/theatre (4th week) Teaching Mrs. Tingle -- $1945/theatre (1st week) Some longer running features and how they were doing for comparison: Star Wars: Episode I -- $1935/theatre (14th week) General's Daughter -- $645/theatre (10th week) The Mummy -- $644/theatre (16th week) movies.yahoo.com Looked at this way, the movie held its own pretty well. However, most all the movies were outpaced handily by The Sixth Sense. It would seem that as long as it pays high on a per theatre basis that you can expect it to replace poorer performers as they age in distribution. This could possibly bring wider distribution, which would drive the numbers higher quite easily this next weekend.
