Lady E:

Part of the link that you supplied had compelling reasons as to why Sony II looks like such a great bet:

According to a study released by Ziff Davis at the gaming summit, which polled about 1,500 video gamers, the biggest percentage of gamers are looking forward to the new Playstation, compared to the other new gaming systems.

There was also talk at the conference of the Sony Playstation gaining on the personal computer in video gaming.

Michael Howse, a senior vice president of marketing for 3dfx Interactive Inc. (Nasdaq:TDFX - news), a graphics chip maker, prefaced his presentation saying he was representing the PC industry.

''Is the PC dead as a gaming platform? This is on the minds of many of us,'' Howse said, adding, however, that he does not believe this will happen.

However, some in the industry have been predicting that the stunning graphics and the high performance in the new Sony Playstation 2 will move both game developers and consequently, gamers, away from the personal computer to the Playstation.

''It sounds like a lot of them (developers) have their eye on the Playstation 2,'' said George Jones, editor-in-chief of Computer Gaming World.

E, thread,

The short radio blurb I heard this a.m. was very positive for Sony Playstation (hence LSI). I heard it in the car, not sure about exact numbers: mentioned that something like 45 million American households had a high powered console game of the PS type. Sony PS had 45%, up somewhere around 8% from last year. Nintendo had something like 35%, and were down some single digit % from last year. I think Sega was next, in the teens, and losing ground also. I guess PSII should gain ground even more for Sony? Anyway, can't hurt for Sony to be gaining on the competition.

Tony

Hi E,

I've recently taken a position in LSI (along with my son) and I'm thinking about adding....what is your take on the weakness today?

OT....added RMBS this week again.

E,

This from the link you posted caught my eye:

>>Sony Computer Entertainment, the video game unit of Sony Corp. has the much-anticipated Playstation 2 in development, but it
will not be launched until the holiday shopping season of 2000.<<

If I remember the conference call right, wasn't Wilf speculating on whether PS2 would be in time for this year's holiday season or early 2000? This seems to be a fairly significant postponement of PS2. I wonder if that will affect year 2000 earnings. Any other folks have a comment?
