"why did UUNET choose Juniper"

Now this may be reaaaaalllly far fetched, but...

Perhaps it was because they are a large private investor - very pre-IPO may I add.

On the other hand, I'm sure that didn't sway their decision at all :->

I wonder why UUnet chose the M40.

Bill, you'll have to ask UUnet. Beware that UUnet can switch to other products at any time. UUnet has no purchase agreement with Juniper. UUnet is JNPR's largest customer, accounting for nearly half of total revenue. Can you imagine the impact to JNPR if UUnet decides to go with the other products from the big guys?

The risk is very real. UUnet was also RBAK's number 1 customer in Q1/99 (43% of revenue). In Q2, sales to UUnet declined by more than 60% sequentially. Fortunately, RBAK was able to place several systems with new customers to compensate for the shortfall and prevent a disaster. Will JNPR be just as lucky if that happens?

Regards,

Tom

I wonder why UUnet chose the M40. They must really be stupid, huh?

The game is about to change. It amazes me that given this that JNPR is actually up today. Given this announcement it's clear that JNPR will be relegated to a niche. Can they make a go of it??? Maybe. Is it worth $10B on less than $100M in revenues.... (more than COMS)... I don't think so. Too little float, too many overzealous investors. A good buy when it came out at 95-105. A ridiculous buy at these levels...
