I hope you are wrong about 3Com being bought by Lucent. I don't see any significant synergies which really are what these mergers are all about, right? I would much rather see Lucent buy Cabletron. Then Lucent would acquire the Yago SmartSwitch Router line as well as the Spectrum Enterprise Management Suite of products before Cabletron spins them off through an IPO. On top of that there isn't any major product overlap between them. It would get Lucent a top of the line enterprise switch platform which they definitely lack and allow them to use the Lucent marketing machine to kick open new doors. Plus they could acquire a company with close to $1.5 billion in annual sales for about $3 to $4 billion in Lucent stock. What do you think?

That my Cisco friend would cause your boss, John Chambers, to really open his eyes to Lucent.
