"..but your assumption that Europe lags the US may not be true."

Bernard,
Excellent point. I need to start to focus on details that explicitly state whether it's one-way or two-way HFC.

Apparently Germany's Deutsche Telekom would need an estimated $2.5 billion to upgrade their cable plant to serve 17 million homes with two-way service.

And I know I read somewhere that a recently purchased Parisian cable plant was strictly one way only (I would hate to think of the costs of upgrading it), but now I can't find that news source. Maybe it was just a small cableco in Paris that was strictly one-way.

Also, if the competive landscape in Europe is like the US, there could potentially be tremendous spending for cable telephony. For some vague reason I keep thinking Tellabs is pushing Cablespan over there. But I could be wrong. I should look that up.
