Michelle, ever truthful, left this out (from the same article):

Vice President Al Gore, the Democratic front-runner who has been a strong advocate of scientific education, favors teaching evolution but believes local authorities have the right to teach creationism as well, said spokesman Alejandro Cabrera.

''The vice president favors the teaching of evolution in public schools. Obviously, that decision should and will be made at the local level and localities should be free to decide to teach creationism as well,'' Cabrera said.

Clockstoppers? Ha!

For a person with no kids, you sure are hung up on schools. Why is that? And how can you legitimately analyze the system with no first hand exposure?

Gore Backs Local Choice on Creationism

dailynews.yahoo.com

As for blaming public education on religion or conservatism, you should ask how many parents would choose not to send their kids to a private, religious school for education if they had the choice. You're going to turn out to be in the small minority. It's too bad public education has gone downhill so much but it's inevitable when they're trying to fill the gaps for all those kids who aren't taught life skills by their parents (in addition to those who come prepared and motivated).
