I hate to say this, but I don't think US Mint can grasp the idea of supply/demand based on the number of modern commemorative coins they keep making. They are probably just passing on their increased costs for planchets and the 1% is going to end up at the Perth Mint. Unfortunately, retailers will get squeezed because gold buyers are very price sensitive and won't pay $5 more for an American Eagle than for a Canadian Maple Leafs.

The cost of shipping those blanks from Australia to the United States must be passed along......Of course this would mean that there is no gold left in Fort Knox!
