John, re: The way some post, you would think these are greater than the building of the pyramids. Give me a break...

I have great appreciation for those with inside industry knowledge and out look that post here such as yourself. When you know something and post it, have some confidence that investors with real money invested long term will consider it. I am not one who thinks that best, first, innovative, etc technology is important. For instance, Dell partners to gain technology that is already there because it is cheaper. They use R&D dollars for the missing pieces to achieve a high ROIC. To acknowledge who has the most, or longest history of development is important from the point of view of respect for human genius, on the other hand it is not where the real business is. This is my point of view.

This computer business is so complicated with a multi- dimensional matrix of products, attributes, quality, timeliness, customer types, geographic, along with suppliers, management changes, business process improvements, accounting metrics, etc it is hard to get a perspective on it from the outside, which is where I am. I have a strong appreciation for process improvements and can pick them out of seemingly unimportant article, but none on what will sell for what price, and how many. What is important to focus on in the news and what does it mean is difficult. I can grasp with great insight some things but not other things. Dell does not give details that will tip off its competitors, yet investors must be informed so that we have the right perception of the company prospects. It is a difficult job for M. Dell and management to walk the line. When some thread posters throw stones at M. Dell from inside their glass houses I wonder about their self awareness. It is a sign of smallness that if dropped would benefit everyone.

Thanks for the help in giving perspective as it means real money to me!
Cheers
Mike
