Your broker is lying to you.
Time to do the Stuart Chicken Dance.
Your brokerage just doesn't allow it. Many brokerages do.

OLDE has told me that for years, so I transferred some IRA funds to Brown&Co. Then Olde tell me that SOME of their clients can trade options. I ask what the requirements are. They don't have an answer. Must be done on a case by case basis.

Doesn't really bother me, Brown&Co is cheaper (synonomous with less expensive). Olde isn't bad, it just isn't great.

There are other brokers out there that provide for option trades inside IRA's. Call em and ask.

The gov. (IRS?) allows writing Covered calls in an IRA. I don't think writing covered puts is allowed since they would have to be against a short position which I don't think is allowed in an IRA. Naked options are not allowed.
