taxman -
the point is not whether DELL is a good company, but rather their position in the market. MSFT and INTC ARE the market in their respective businesses. DELL is somewhere in the pack, with maybe a shot at #2 or even #1 in PCs within the next year or so. Good, but DELL does not set the environment or the rules of the game - they just play better than anyone else. As they go from a relatively small player (in 1996 they were #5) to a position of market leadership, they will be affected by the "law of large numbers" - going from 5% share to 15% share is about as hard as going from 15% to 20%, and getting much more than 20% is extremely tough given the strength of the other players.

There is no "gorilla" in that business at the moment, and given DELL's "fast follower" strategy, it is unlikely that DELL will change that fact.
