The interesting thing about the Hitler guns control laws is that they didn't exist before Hitler. Thus, the evil demagogue took over a Germany in which the people had the right to bear unregistered arms. This right did not protect the citizenry at all from the dictator. My view is that people falsely believe that keeping guns will protect them from the loss of our democracy. Not true. If democracy were to be lost, its loss will be insidious, in the guise of a national emergency, with many citizens duped by a power-mad "leader" a la Hitler, and pitted against one another. Depending which side of the national crisis you are on, your neighbor will blow you to kingdom-come, or vice versa. Democracy was lost in Germany because the armed citizens by and large agreed with the "leader", and would shoot down like a dog anyone who disagreed, or didn't care enough to start any armed rebellions. No, my friends, guns will not protect us because the "smart" thief or democracy will turn brother against brother, rendering an uprising not only futile, but something many armed "true believers" in the "leader" would vigorously oppose with arms. Arms won't protect anyone against a determined monster who scares and convinces a good portion of the armed citizenry that he is "taking the measures needed." And don't think it can't happen here. Germany was a cultured, civilized country (producing Nobel Prize Winners, Composers, Artists, and Humanitarians) prior to Hitler. Germany Society Pre-Hitler: Richard Wagner (world acclaimed composer) Walther Rathenau (Jewish Foreign Minister) Albert Einstein (Nobel Prize Winner) Sigmund Freud (Father of Psychology-from German Austria) Albert Schweitzer (Humanitarian physician-fought malaria) Paul Ehrlich (Doctor who found a cure for Syphillis) Th world was shocked at how a country that epitomized civilized society and progress could so quickly deteriorate. The battle Hitler fought & won was psychological . Arms did not protect the German citizens from Hitler's pandering to their fears and prejudices. They won't protect Americans from tyranny to any greater extent. (Self defense against robbers and burglars may be more of a justification; but defense against tyrants is among the weakest of arguments given the history of how tyrants so easily brainwash the armed citizenry into employing their guns against democracy.
