Monday August 30, 8:09 am Eastern Time - Cable & Wireless Signs $75 Million Global Agreement With Compaq HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 30, 1999--Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ - news) today announced a global IT agreement with Cable & Wireless, a world leader in telecommunications. Under the agreement, Compaq will supply Cable & Wireless with Deskpro desktop and Armada notebook PCs for its global operation. International Computer Group (ICG), a Compaq International Systems Reseller, will handle configuration, service and support. The contract has a projected value of $75 million over three years. ''When we started talking to Compaq, there was a meeting of the minds in terms of long-term business objectives,'' said Nick Duarte, Cable & Wireless Director of Purchasing for IT and IS. ''The key for us with this agreement is that it gives us world class delivery and support, as well as a best price guarantee.'' Cable & Wireless expects the agreement will deliver significant cost savings through global standardization of its desktop platforms, improved management reporting, and complete visibility of worldwide purchasing. Each country is able to order and deploy Compaq systems by working with a local Compaq account manager and the local ICG company. Availability of the agreement to the Cable & Wireless business units will take place in three phases. The full rollout is anticipated to be complete within three months beginning with offices located in the US and the UK.
