At these all-time high levels, however, the market is looking for a reason to sell, and I think it will find one. Look no further than the millenium problem. Sure, the US and Europe may be prepared, but what about Russia, China, and Latin America? Would widespread y2k-related failures cause economic panic in those countries, and if so, how would that affect US interests? How deep and how long would the impacts go?

This may very well all be silly handwringing, but it is grave uncertainty nonetheless--the kind the market hates more than anything. I am very happy with my wad of cash safely stashed under my electronic (and, I'm hoping, fully y2k compliant) mattress.
