Well, I think MAKR be making my day - ooo baby, I love your way, MAKRing my day. Tuesday September 7, 8:33 am Eastern Time Company Press Release Maker Communications Ships Samples of MXT4400 Traffic Stream Processor Alcatel/Xylan, Cabletron and Lucent Technologies, Get Early Access to OC-12 ATM and Packet-Over-SONET Chip FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 7, 1999--Maker Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:MAKR - news) -- the leading supplier of High-Intensity Communications Processors(TM) -- today announced that it has shipped engineering samples of its second generation programmable network processor, the MXT4400, to select customers including Alcatel/Xylan (NYSE:ALA - news), Cabletron (NYSE:CS - news) and Lucent Technologies. These customers have also received Maker's development environment and PortMaker(TM) application software. The MXT4400 Traffic Stream Processor (TSP) enables communications equipment vendors to build software re-programmable systems -- including Internet routers, switches, and multiplexers -- that can process ATM, Packet-Over-SONET (POS) and Frame Relay traffic. The TSP is a high-performance, programmable packet and cell processor that currently supports applications at wire-speed up to OC-12c, while future members of the family will run up to OC-48c. It performs a variety of programmable traffic management and internetworking functions for up to 64,000 separate streams of IP or ATM traffic. The MXT4400 is also available with a production-grade network application called PortMaker, and features a comprehensive development environment that includes chip models, a complete software simulation environment, assembler, debugger, and will include a C-compiler. ``Our ability to ship a second generation network processor with advanced traffic management capabilities for both packet- and ATM-based network equipment provides systems vendors with a powerful platform for innovation,' said William N. Giudice, Chairman and CEO, Maker Communications. ``The MXT4400's programmability, combined with our application software and development tools, enables systems vendors to add unique value to their products, get them to market faster and leverage a common system design across a wide range of products.' The MXT4400 can be used to provide a variety of network functions including encapsulation/de-encapsulation, Segmentation and Reassembly (SARing), label switching, virtual circuit/flow merging, traffic shaping and traffic policing. These programmable, advanced traffic management and internetworking services allow systems vendors to accelerate the development of a wide range of equipment including routers, ATM switches, Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers (DSLAMs), and multi-service switches. Pricing and Availability The MXT4400 is priced from $120 to $170 in volume, depending on processor speed. Samples are available immediately. Production quantities will be available in the second half of 1999. The PortMaker software application can be licensed in either binary or source code formats.
