sunny...

beg to differ with you...i buy quality stocks and hold long..been doing so since the seventies. but if you're are in the market you must be aware of all strategies to enhance you investment objection. to state anything other then common stock is gambling or speculation is ignorance of other products. what has been discussed in no way represents a trading strategy...i ask you to point out where you have arrived at this conclusion. markets have changed, they will be forever volatile due to massive liquidity and media driven events, this is reality..stocks no longer pay higher divs then bonds, this is a reality...a quality stock must appreciate to pay back its share holder...right now the quality stock de jour is qcom, but most can't separate the quality aspect from the momentum play.

if you have any questions on why options enhance a portfolio, please ask...my recommendations to moore was to look at intc,msft,dell,ibm,hwp...i would consider them higher quality then the stocks discussed on this thread...good luck, ed a.

Sunny, IMO, All of these strategies smack more of speculation or gambling rather than investing.
The strategy I discussed in #5648 is, I believe, a considerably more conservative way to play RMBS than simply buying common. A number of parties have expressed some interest here regarding LEAPS strategies. I believe one poster expressly asked edamo to chime in here, as he obviously knows his stuff. His strategy can hardly be called speculative, and I think those posts would be good to read for anyone considering plays other than straight common. Very educational. Sorry if the discussion has gotten too far off track, but hopefully some have gained something from it (I have). I'd be happy to continue discussion via PM if no one else benefits from it. Greg

True, Sunny, but then again, any method of investing entails some degree of gambling; options are just at the extreme edge. Devoted options players tell me that their strategies can reduce the degree of risk to nearly that of owning stocks while maintaining a high degree of leverage, but trying to understand their techniques usually gives me headaches. Besides, as Gorilla Gamers, we're looking for sure things <g>.
