Danced the Shaking of the Sheets (middle England)
Gave up the ghost
Gave up the shade
Stopped a bullet
Cut down (these are not always indicators of death)
Lost his head
Got shortened (refers to the guillotine)
Had his neck bobbed (same)
Went to the Sky
Went upstairs
Passed on
Is no longer with us
Is no longer among the living
, May he rest in peace...
, RIP ...
Inherited the earth
Committed seppuku (very formal suicide in Japan)
Gone to flowers
Flatlined
Achieved brain-death
Went to fertilizer

Incidentally, the term "kicked the bucket" seems to be from England centuries ago, and refers to the slaughter of pigs, who were hung from "bucket beams". The last shudders of death occasionally clanged a hoof into the suspended bucket.

In Beetlejuice, the title character was asked: "Do you have any, uh, qualifications [for scaring the living]?" He responded with an eloquent soliloquy along these lines:
"Well, I studied at Juliard, attended...." [he provides a brief but impressive resum‚, then shouts] "...AND I'M A DEAD GUY!"

It's a shame about Kurt Cobane's suicide -- tragic indeed, coming as it did about five years too late.
