Marc I just checked the Dell web site and in the desktops I looked at the ATI card was second choice to NVidia. I think that ATI has been the second less expensive choice at Dell for a while in a number of their computers. At Dell Canada ATI is still 1st choice on a number of computers. Since Dell offers customers a choice of graphics cards I would be surprised if ATI products disappeared from Dell systems. This reminds me of the Intel scare a little over a year ago.

Since Ho is an icehole unlike other CEO's such as Gates and Ellison who are great guys I'm sure that ATI is in big trouble. Don't forget that he is sneaky too.

I think there is no doubt that ATI has been losing shipments to Dell. A few months ago, ATI was present in all four of Dell's major PC categories (high end consumer, low end consumer, high end corporate, low end corporate). They were shipping huge amounts of chips and boards to Dell.

Over the last few months, all of these four PC lines at Dell have come under pressure for ATI, for different reasons.

Dell's mid/high-end consumer PC line (Dimension) has been using ATI boards in the past. They are currently listed with Voodoo3 boards in the web page, but I think it's possible that ATI will continue to ship a certain amount of boards for certain configurations.

Dell's newly introduced value consumer PC line, Dimension-L, uses Intel's 810 chipset with integrated graphics. This segment used to be equipped with ATI chips on the motherboard.

Dell's new low end corporate PCs with the Celeron processor also use Intel's 810 chipset. Previous models were using ATI chips.

Finally, with regard to higher end corporate PCs, which has also been ATI business, there is a page on the Dell website listing the specifications of Dell's upcoming Camino-based corporate PCs. It lists an NVIDIA chip (TNT2 Model 64) for graphics. See the NVIDIA thread for confirmation. This spec sheet appears to be the source of the rumours.
