Conservatives do not want government regulating people's private lives, except perhaps in the area of abortion where lives are at stake, and government may properly act to protect those lives.

There is a hard right fringe, however, who would like government to be scaled down except as necessary to establish a theocracy in which their view of what is moral and right is crammed down the throats of dissenters. These are the people who--when "liberals" try to enforce their secular religious views--scream that they are being oppressed by some ill-defined tyranny. These people are extremely paranoid, and although they have the freedom to do, be and say anything they want, see conspiracies under every rock and derive some strange pleasure in imagining that hard-working law enforcement officials are "jack-booted thugs", "Nazis", etc. To support this bizarre world view of theirs, they harp on one or two incidents (such as the Waco debacle of 6 years ago) and dwell on them ad nauseam as evidence of some grand conspiracy to establish a dictatorship.

Ingratitude for the rights they enjoy daily is woven deeply into this hard right culture; the fact that people around the world can only dream of the rights and freedoms they have is an annoyance to them. They scream about their loss of rights day and night while owning two homes, socking away cash in 401k plans, traveling the nation or the world, and sitting in comfortably heated/air conditioned homes where they have enough leisure time to air their views of how they are being so badly oppressed on Internet forums. This while billions of the world's people live under brutal dictatorial regimes where going on an Internet forum and calling the President-for-life a "scumbag" would earn them the right to disappear forever in the middle of the night, while family members can (in the better of such nations) make an inquiry or two as to the location of their bones. In other places, hundreds of millions dare not object to government policies, as they make their way to 18 hour a day factory jobs where they earn 20 cents an hour, or out to the fields where their malaria-wracked bodies pick enough crops to feed, on a good day some of their children. Of course, this burden decreases as families are thinned by malaria, scurvy, parasitic infections, etc.

These hard right whiners and complainers are the most obnoxiously spoiled group of ingrates this nation has ever produced. It comes not from having too little, but from having too much. They want more than even the obscene riches they have now (by world standards), and anyone who dares disagree with them is not "my fellow American who has another point of view", but an evil advocate of tyranny who (now having been appropriately demonized) may be dealt with by any means necessary.

These hard right fringe members bear a strong desire to shoot liberals, but cannot justify this on any ground but self-defense. They therefore must psychologically nurse delusions that the liberals are out to shoot and kill them. These poor oppressed people may now organize to defend themselves--after all, what choice do they have?

Oh my God! Kids are being told the truth!? How dare the schools actually tell kids that some men love men and some women love women. And on top of it all to actually suggest that those people have FEELINGS is just way too much.

This is just way to much for me to deal with. I certainly don't want my children exposed to reality. Why should they be when they can just go on living in there sheltered little world so that one day they can grow up oblivious to it all and be as confused and paranoid as their parents? That sounds like a much better option to me.

Do you hear the sarcasm dripping from my tongue? Good.

Dan,

In the article it clearly says that the "movie" is not meant to be shown to students. So what children are being subjected to anything?

Mark

Why does that bother you? Gay people exist. Why can't children know about that?

I don't think it's a good thing for kids to call each other "fag" on the school grounds. I think it's intolerable. Usually it's aimed at girls who don't act girly-girly and boys who aren't into sports, even though they probably aren't gay. And it hurts.

I think it's as intolerable as using curse words, as intolerable calling black kids "nigger" and Jewish kids "kike" and calling Hispanic kids "spic" and calling Islamic kids "ragheads." School is a place where kids come to learn, not be abused. As a parent, I have zero tolerance for abuse, and I want the school to be the same way.

If I were the principal, I'd suspend kids for using bad language, period.
