Clark,

MMDS was originaly made for local private TV bropadcast, but then some two way stuff came up, such as Comcast in NY, so they kinda threw out the rules. Today, it is so unclear about what you can do there. Basically if you stay wihtin the 6 Mhz bandwidth that you get on each channel, you can do practically anything, including run full PCS service there.

At LMDS frequencies, you are limited in functions and since it is 14 GHZ, you cannot do a whole heck of alot, even if Qdog thinks you can violate physics....

What rules? They are changing and have already from the original 1970's. Instead of a one-way system, they have allowed it to be a two way service.

Now who has bought the companies that hold the MMDS license's? Sprint, MCIWorldCom and AT&T. My goodness, the big three of long Distance. What is the Telecommunication of Act of 1996 all about? LEC/CLEC doing LD and LD doing local access, among other things. This was originally for TV, it's a dead issue. 4 death star GEO DBS satellite systems have render the original concept dead. The convenants of the Telcom Act have not been realized. Now why would MCIWorldCom sell News Corp their Geo DeathStar DBS license, only to turn around and buy these companies? So they can get back into providing TV? MCIWorlcom doesn't have a mobile wireless entity, now do they. Refuse to buy an exsisting company as well.

On a technical issue, there is no big mystery here. There is no voodooing physics of the MMDS spectrum. The rules in the MMDS band are changing as did the LMDS band. There are NO technical issues that prevents Sprint from building on their PCS towers another broadbanded service that is only 600 MHz higher than the PCS band. There will be no need for 10' grid Anixter Mark dishes deploy on everyones homes and atop their vehicles.

Go to the FCC site, they have a search engine. There are plenty of documents and internal sites about the history of MMDS. Also take a look at who composes the technical advisory board to the FCC governors. That in itself tells you that the rules will change even more.
