Hitler was not democratically elected to his position. In the last pre-Hitler democratic election, the Nazis won only 33% of the vote. After this, Germany being a parliamentary system, Hitler was invited to serve in the government. His close ties with the army thereafter allowed him to seize power. Hitler's ascension had little to do with the non-Marxist Western left, as you call it. His ascension was enabled by the shackles put on Roosevelt by isolationists in the U.S. and by those who followed Neville Chamberlain, often referred to as the Pat Buchanan of his day. That Wilson set the stage for Hitler is a central tenet of the "let's blame America for everything" group of historians.
