SF,

You already have a sort of hi-tech goldrush to the west cost,
irrespective of the gold price.

According to G Oldman in his not so well known book "Auruminations",
the correlation between population density and the gold price is
negative, implying that a drop in price would generate a propensity to lessen interest in mining pits and increase interest in trading pits, causing people to support themselves by urbanized daytrading
instead. Lode is not the way to go to be loaded.

The strange answer to your even stranger question seems to be "No".

Regards
Per S
