Well then what were they rushing to 150 years ago? Why can't we generate the same type of enthusiasm and excitement that had existed for gold 150 years ago, if the price was the same as 150 years ago? It would be like a nostalgic trip down memory lane where thousands of people traveled thousands of combined miles, ate buffalo and were killed by indians, starvation, inclimate weather and horrible "Chuck" like wagon accidents. Man, we could circle the wagon while Gummy, our eldest prospective prospector would eat beans and espouse a thin layer of methane gas over our bedrolls. Those are the days to yearn for.

You are saying that if gold prices go down, we will create ghost towns. I say that if gold prices go down, it would be the gold rush all over again. Yeeeehaaaa mama! Rope them dogies and punch some cattle, we'sa goin west! (on a side note, there IS a reason why a lot of men in San Francisco (one of the sites of the original gold rush)still wear chaps. The reason is they are waiting for the price on gold to fall, they are the ones ready to jump on them horsies with their pick axes!
