Let's be clear.

You're suggesting that the same principle should apply to a car as toa gun?

You're suggesting that if a parent leaves the car keys in an accessible place and the kid takes them and drives the car off and kills somebody, the parents should be responsible?

Makes logical sense.

As a parent, though, I HATE it!!!!!

If a parent left the motor running, and a kid came out and put the car in gear and drove off, don't you think the parent would be liable?

Let me put it to you that there is a bit of a difference here. A car has many uses in suburbia, aside from running people over with. For example a car can drive you to school, and to work, to the store for milk - etc etc. Please tell me what lawful purpose a gun can be used for in suburbia OFF of a firing range? And let's leave out the rare instance of a teenager using one for home protection (and I do not believe I've ever read of such a case thought I am sure there must be at least one).
