This'll be partly tongue-in-cheek, so bear with me. I recently read an article about the suburban uses of guns. One guy used a 32-20 levergun to make the hole in his wall for a cable line (suggestion was to do this from the inside out, and put a box full of old newspapers in the exit area.)
Cars have many uses, but the idea that guns have a single use is, well, polarizing. I don't think there is wisdom into elevating guns into some Special Evil status. Just as it is patently stupid to fail to admit that they are dangerous. Like maybe a two-stroke chainsaw.

<<And let's leave out the rare instance of a teenager using one for home protection (and I do not believe I've ever read of such a case thought I am sure there must be at least one). >>

Yep, me. When I was 15 and my parents were away for a couple of days A guy started jimmying the lock on the back door in the middle of the night. I grabbed my deer rifle and slammed a round into the chamber. That made him leave so I tracked him through the fresh snow to where he had parked but never got a look at him or the car. Might have been the same guy who had broken in the summer before.
