Vman, I'm sure Airtouch has got things under control. As many on this very thread say, we should just trust management to do it right. Now, where's that url for me to buy a phone? I heard the system was starting service in September and Bernie Schwartz bet a dinner on it. It's September and I'm ready to rumble.

Hay, I just thought, maybe Mr Schwartz only meant that there would be a satellite coming over now and then and if you use the phone [I suppose that a few will be available to those who know somebody in the know] in the right part of the right country, you'll be able to get intermittent service. I guess that could be considered an up and running system. Seems a bit dodgy to demand a dinner on the strength of it though.

Since one of the essential claims of Globalstar is that it's a global phone, a primary requirement would be that I could buy a phone somewhere and use it anywhere there is a gateway or compatible terrestrial mode.

You are saying I can't use it anywhere other than around a single gateway?

Hmmm, and this is the launch of the service I'm going to go see in Geneva? Do you think they'll sell phones there? Don't you think it's time that some marketing stuff was appearing in the Globalstar url? I know the Service Providers are supposed to do the marketing, but a global brand like Globalstar needs a core image and information resource from which people could click through to the right place for their individual needs.

I found in the airtouch.com site that minutes will be $1.50 and phones about $1000, so they and the $1 - $1.25 which Bernie was quoting yesterday are out of kilter with each other.

Okay, more research to find me a phone and where to use it and how much it will be and how much the minutes will be and how do I roam and to where and when and stuff like that. This is fun being a customer.

I'm happy to buy the phone in NZ, USA, Europe, China, Taiwan, Japan or Australia but so far, no revenue for Globalstar looks likely from this keen customer. It's hard work giving them money. All I want is a phone which uses CDMA by Qualcomm, works most places where there are a lot of people and doesn't cost too much. If it was $0.20 per minute, I'd use heaps of minutes. $0.50 I'd use quite a lot. $1 a minute, not so many. $2 a minute, urgent calls only and brief at that. $10 a minute, just a few a year.

I'll pay cash.

So far though, no sale! I'm trusting management flat out, but can't seem to get the right urls. There must be a million like me [in a few weeks] wanting to find out if Globalstar is for them. Maybe we are all going to get a personal visit from a sales rep. Okay, back to Airtouch which will perhaps launch sometime this year I think it said.

PS: John, yes, some in Globalstar sometimes read the thread. Carol does! Hi Carol :-]
