Excuse me? A cop-out is explaining that I have a guest coming over and couldn't post a response immediately?? Boy, you really are reaching there Christine. I thought it was a decent gesture to inform you I wouldn't be posting immediately, since we were both on-line at the same time. As far as your Yes/No question/mandatory answer...Either you do believe in the proliferation of guns in American society, or you do not. Either you do believe that safe and legal abortion has a positive affect on crime, or you do not. Wouldn't it be nice if every social problem could be solved by a yes/no answer. Let's just say yes and the problem is solved. Those people who say no are ignorant and wrong headed. Contrary to your apparent belief's Christine, the issues are not so simplistic as that. But before I get into that, we were not even discussing guns and its relation to violence when you popped in. I was interjecting a little humor toward the postings that men, and men alone, create violent crimes. Then describing, (perhaps in a flipint way) how statistics can be used to create all kinds of silly slogans. All of which could have some basis in truth. But would be nonetheless misleeding. If you had taken the time to read back a few posts, in order to genuinely try and discover my belief's as they relate to guns, you could have discovered them here....Message 11117401 So again, your assumption that I don't clarify my positions have very little footing to stand on. And since I never discussed abortion in detail as it relates to violent crime, I'll do so now... I do not believe you can look at the issue in a linear cause and effect manner only. Human social interactions are much more complex than that. There may be some statistical correlation, however designing an effective model would require taking into effect a minimum of the following issues: 1. Increased availability of adoption. 2. Increased awareness of contraceptive devices 3. Increased awareness of poverty as it relates to single parenting. 4. Societal increased stigmitation as it relates to single mothers. 5. Decreasing or increasing levels of government welfare programs. 6. Increases awareness by fathers of the importance of their role in child-rearing. 7. Increased awareness by fathers of their responsibility to prevent unwanted pregnancies. As well as many more causal feedback loops I haven't even thought of. So once again Christine your quick-to-jump assumptions regarding my belief's are singularly rooted in the mental models you carry with you. Inferentially you jump on the first model you hit (based on past experiences) and infer it fits each event. Learning how to unlearn is the greatest gift of all Christine. And truly peeling open your mental models to examine through open dialogue whether they are accurate is an achievement you have yet to reach. Michael
