Here are the first lame rumblings from the bald guy in Redmond.

Some industry observers said Microsoft is embracing the subscription model very reluctantly as it tries to preserve a major cash cow, Office, which nets more than $3 billion each year.

That MSFT is talking about a retail subscription model, speaks volumes to where M$ fits in to future computing model; a single entity competing AGAIST AT&T, AOL, everyone and their dog, and open standards.

Why people expect some kind of master stroke from these guys any minute now, I don't understand.
