Buying Sherwood would help NITE in its path to controlling position in the Nasdaq.

Herschel,

I don't understand why NITE would want to buy SHWD? If NDB ever elected to stop making markets through SHWD, NITE would simply pick up that market share (as it has picked up market share from MER, GSCO, MSCO, regionals, etc. when they stopped making markets in various securities). Is there something else worth buying? Market making contracts, perhaps? I'm sure NITE wouldn't want the equipment.

I vaguely recall hearing somewhere, some time ago, that SHWD actually made a good amount of money for NDB. If that is so (and perhaps it isn't), I gather that SHWD would continue in existence (until put out of business by the ECN monster :)).

Have any of you noticed the bullish trend on nite, that is, specifically the balance of power reading off the telechart 2000 charting system. Having interviewed peter worden and realizing that he considers this one of their more accurate proprietary formulas, I feel that this stock has fallen w/ a group that it is not entirely characteristic with the this stock, namely OLB's. I never really saw a sign of outright distribution on this one, as it fell from the 80's to it's current position. It has seems to me to be a nuetral reading, which considering the price level it is currently at, tells me it is probably an outright buy. Of course, I may off base.

[NDB] attributed higher expenses to acceleration of expenses associated with NBD.com's advertising campaign, non-recurring write-offs of obsolete equipment and software to allow for upgrades at its subsidiaires, Sherwood Securities and NDB.Com, and clearing and related charges from increased transaction flow at Sherwood Securities.

I guess they should move their back-end clearing work to MER?

The recent deal with Merrill will loom large for NITE..in fact ML has a high opinion(2/1) on the stock.Today's volume tells me there's little downward risk...Geez,this stock has retraces 80% of its upmove this year!

Not expensive,either....Consensus Estimates
