Kash, you're probably right on this, but I think we are getting off track when we start guageing Merced's performance and thus it's market position in terms of SpecInt and SpecFP. My guess is that it will appear in SMP servers and not so much in workstations where these benchmarks would be useful. Later versions that move to .13u and include evolutionary enhancements and huge on-die caches will extend on down into workstations and there I think the benchmarks will be truly staggering by today's standards. Although I expected the performance to be excellent, I didn't expect Merced to beat an Alpha and I was kind of surprised when Intel made that claim. Now let's see if they can back it up.
