But, Charles, are you saying it is even plausible that operational decisions were being made by a nitwit like Reno? Or do you think it's more likely that Louis Freeh called the shots? If it's Freeh or Reno, I doubt the "ideas" as to what to do would have come from them, but would have been recommendations from an "experienced law enforcement agent." I have trouble with a scenario that posits the FBI/ATF saying to Reno: "we have them surrounded what do we do now", and she answers. "burn 'em all to death." My suspicion, and it's only that is that we're dealing here with gross FBI/ATF idiocy.

People also forget that Clinton, Reno and Freeh had only been in office for a few weeks when all this occurred. All the more reason to suspect that they deferred to ground commanders operationally.
