In the spirit of trying to get some discussion going on some of our other favourites I would like to gage the sentiment regarding the networking chip makers like PMCS, VTSS etc. The W & W portfolio has held PMCS for some time. This company has demonstrated terrific performance the last few years and sells to an enviable customer list (CSCO, LU etc). Market growth is obviously very strong for their products. Competition to date has been primarily from other similar companies like VTSS, AMCC etc.

My concern is how much of a threat Intel (and perhaps IBM) might be to PMCS' future. Intel recently acquired a PMCS competitor (Level One was the company name I believe). With Intel seemingly looking more and more beyond their core PC cpu market, does this bode poorly for the likes of PMCS?

I know some here don't like semi companies at all. I believe the networking space is a little different, when one considers its really an internet infrastructure play. Does the entrance of the PC chip gorilla mean PMCS' best days are behind them? I'm not qualified to answer and suspect that PMCS will continue to do well. After all, Intel has been less than successful in the graphic chip market the last couple of years.

Looking forward to feedback, and hope everyone enjoys a great long weekend.

PS: I did a spell check with the edit function here at SI. It doesn't recognize the word "internet". Unbelievable!
