Pravin - Re: "No comment on these figures? I would think a 64 bit K8 could match or beat the Merced numbers. "

SUre it could !

I'll bet the K8 can do 75 GigaFlops - maybe 3000 GigaFlops.

Now, all AMD has to do is DESIGN it and manufacture it.

Meanwhile, Merced is up and running at Intel and "selected" customer sites.

<No comment on these figures? I would think a 64 bit K8 could match or beat the Merced numbers.>

Pravin, first of all, what do you know about the K8? Are you positive that its going to follow the EV7 architecture? Do you know that in essense, the EV7 is nothing more than an EV6 core with four DRDRAM controllers integrated onto the processor die? (There's other stuff as well, but that's the general idea.)

And second, even though Intel is expecting excellent performance out of Merced, McKinley will make Merced look weak. Unless K8 is going to appear before McKinley (or Madison and Deerfield for that matter), it would make no sense whatsoever to compare it to Merced.
