>As you know, I am strictly speculating here.

I'd hardly call it speculating.. You've presented evidence that Merrill has now decided AMZN is "overvalued", and in fact they're dropping their bond position from their model portfolio. I would suspect it will be a matter of days before they change their stock rating to "hold."

With the gigantic number of AMZN calls set to expire profitably in less than 2 weeks (thanks prissy), many of which were probably sold naked by Merrill, the timing would be perfect for AMZN to experience a great fall. Remember, the easiest profits are always made when expiration time approaches.. (well, easiest if you are a high-profile analyst that moves markets, and you wait until 1-2 days before expiration)

Glenn,

Excellent "speculative" opinions on amzn.

How do you feel momnetum will play into this stock ? So many people do not trade on fundamantals..they trade on momentum. I tend to agree with your thoughts on amzn, but at the same time, it's hard seeing this thing not go back to $100......I really am at a loss on this one with no earthly idea what to do.

Have a great labor day

I believe the resignation of Jimmy Wright on Thursday and the admission by Amazon that the distribution facilities were not coming online as smoothly as hoped changed the internal opinion. Merrill's inside comments on Friday was not to buy Amazon until further information was available. I suspect a downgrade is coming ...

Glenn, according to the press release, Jimmy Wright "retired" (age 45). You see, everything moves faster at Amazon, and people age more quickly: one Amazon year equals 7 regular years. :)
