If price fixing was not a concern for oil, copper, and aluminum, why should it be a problem for the gold industry?

The main problem here as I see it is that most gold producers are too weak financially to risk bankruptcy by cutting output sharply. Hence the need for big time consolidation.

The inanbility of the industry to hang together for the benefit of all has cost its stockholders dearly. With a wave of consolidations expected in the Australian gold sector soon, perhaps some of these hidebound managements are getting the message.
