On interoperability I strongly disagree. Not because I'm in your 1%, but because carriers make technology choices based on it.

No, carriers make technology choices based upon profitability. Profitability is influenced by many factors of which interoperability is a minor consideration. The advantages of CDMA are the reason 3G is CDMA. Providers who want maximum future interoperability will go CDMA. GSM is so entrenched in Europe and some other markets that it will take longer in these areas to go CDMA but worldwide, wireless is growing so rapidly, and into countries that have a shortage of landline phones, that CDMA will have the upper hand when it comes to interoperability. Europe will soon be viewed as backwards when it comes to their (soon to be) fragmented and mostly obsolete wireless infrastructure. The first CDMA networks in Europe will be primarily for data.

Perhaps our differences are explained by our individual perception of time. To my way of thinking 5 years is very soon and next year is as good as tomorrow. How do you think vendors who finance networks perceive time? Probably they look forward to the date that the loan will be paid off.
