It shows that my modem sees about eight or nine radios. One of them has a COLOR value of 29. It's the seventh on the list. Does that mean signal from my modem hops sixth times before hitting the WAP?

The position on the list does not indicate how many hops. It just shows the nearest (or strongest signals) radios to you. Some will be end users, others will be pole top repeaters, and others will be the WAPs. The last field (the one with the minus signs) shows the signal strength. Ignoring the minus sign, the one with the lowest number has the strongest signal.

There are documents on Metricom's site that has more details about the information when you do the ATS? commands. I think it was in their modem documentation.

I don't want to fill up a financial discussion thread with "tech talk". Have fun with your investigation about what the modem is telling you.
