gc: With all due respect, altho why not sure why, :-), management did not tell any of us "not to expect much from China" last week. There is heresay to the effect that the Q's management suggested some caution. This has been filtered through an "analyst" who may or may not have reported correctly.

In any event, what comes out of the Jiang and Bill meeting will be of great interest. What it might be, I doubt many of us can predict. But while I was unwilling to predict the opening price tomorrow, I will predict that since the two "leaders" have more to gain than lose by "making nice", they will. To the joy of some and dismay of others in both countries. But, perhaps I am wrong in my fearless prediction. :-)

At least the "communique" will be positive. Such things always are :-)

<Do you really know better than management who just told you last week not to expect much from China?> Gregg knows better than Irwin whether fragmentation of 3G is good and I know better on China!

Actually, management was talking about the next year or two rather than 3 or 5 years from now when China, like everywhere, will be going flat out on data in general and cdma2000 in particular. Maybe the VW0 gang will cobble together something, but since the Ericy Web site is STILL saying that CDMA is no good, it is not likely they'll be able to do it.

Their main strategy is still to sell as much GSM as they can. They have the cdmaOne and cdma2000 as back stops, but GSM is their world for now.

Of course cdmaOne in China is going to be insignificant for another year or so which is the period Q! management were talking about. You don't bomb your neighbour's house then expect them to buy anything from you. I know that seems obtuse to a lot of Americans but that's a weird psycho syndrome some people have.

By the way, if anyone is worried about human rights, there are plenty being ended in East Timor right now. I wonder if Bill Clinton will whine about human rights there as much as he does about those in China.

Once again it's one bunch of religious zealots versus another. This time I think it's Catholics vs Moslems. They both have God on their side, so it should be quite a mess. Luckily, 'thou shalt not kill' isn't taken too seriously by either Moslems or Catholics or the news would have little to make money from.

gc, sometimes something is not hype, it really is very, very good. If you are shorting things, you need to think more about why a thing has zoomed up rather than to simplistically think what goes up must come down.

Qualcomm is simply the most amazing company which has ever existed and the prospects for further development are unlimited. It is certain to be the first $trillion company even though Microsoft has only to double [that will be harder than it seems]. Then it will really pick up speed and be at $10tn before you know it. That's not hype, that's simple, basic reality. Call it hype if you like!

gc,

Gonna love watching your posts over the next year when Q is soaring. That is if you haven't already been chased off by the rest of the thread. I think I just heard they changed the old saying of 2 sure things to 3 sure things: Death, Taxes, gc negative posts. Nuff said!!

My apologies to the thread for a bit of flaming. Tired of the SOS
