Kapkan4u - You wrote that the 64 bit K8 can come out early and spoil the merced party. I didn't know it was so far along so I am quite impressed. By the way - what companies will have new 64 bit operating systems and new 64 bit software when the K8 is introduced?

Kap,

<Nice summary of the server market.>

Glad that you liked my server peice. I got so much heat for comparing Athlon with Merced, I felt I had to clarify.

<I agree with your analysis that Intel is likely to position Merced against Athlon in the server space.
Where Intel is lacking in design strength they will compensate with the marketing prowess. >

Completely agree. intel is a massive marketing machine but the biggest thing going against Intel is the new instruction set and all the things that could go wrong with a new platform. I think companies planning on introducing a new instruction set can learn a lot from the Merced effort. I am looking forward to it.
