Tero, Craig Farrill of Airtouch says that they won't charge by the minute, they'll charge by the bit and the delivery date required for that bit.

So 3G will be much, much cheaper than the current blundering minute rates with networks running at 25% capacity if they are lucky.

You can forget $2 to $5 per minute. People will learn quickly that it's expensive to watch images and especially moving images!

The 2G will be replaced by 3G because so many people will want 3G services, at least some of the time and they'll still be able to make plain old phone calls.

This is a high speed technological and financial race as you have always said. Nokia used to have a battery life advantage on GSM but check out the ThinPhone talk times and you can kiss goodbye to that advantage of GSM. Nokia still has economies of scale advantage, but not in the CDMA world. That advantage is held by Qualcomm.

Sure, CDMA is still small, so Qualcomm's overall cellphone market share is tiny. But the trend is their friend.

3G is going to be cheaper and better. This is a threat to the mainframe PC Web business. Many people will just have a WWeb device and no hardwired PC. For example those who just want voice, email and a bit of browsing with voice control of most functions.
