Mike,

<<The difference here is that it maybe the first
gold/copper porphyry in the multi-billion ton class.>>

I hope you realize that you need 5 billions tons of .6g/t gold to have 100M ounces gold. What is the largest porphyry in Chile ?

Have you watched the drilled program at Cerro Casale. They have 1.183 billion tonnes containing .71 grams gold per tonne and 0.26 per cent copper for a total of 26.9* million ounces of gold and 6.8 billion pounds of copper. The type of holes you need to build that kind of a resources is 800 meters of .8g/t gold....

MDHM best holes is 154m of .6g/t ? But there is always a first. Maybe there is a very good reason for MDHM apparent overvalutaion. Time will tell and that is why I am watching.

Company Press Release
Southwestern And Asarco To Explore For Copper In Chile
VANCOUVER, BC--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 7, 1999--Southwestern Gold Corporation (TSE:SWG. - news) is pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached with ASARCO Exploration Company-Chile to explore Southwestern's 100 percent owned West Fissure Copper Project located in central Chile.

The West Fissure Project is comprised of 12 separate properties, totalling approximately 58,000 hectares, located within the main West Fissure Porphyry Copper Belt of Chile. This Belt is host to significant metal deposits including a number of world class porphyry copper deposits: Chuquicamata, Escondida, El Salvador, Cerro Colorado, Quebrada Blanca, El Abra and Zaldivar. The recent discovery of a number of new large porphyry copper deposits, in areas underlain completely by gravels, has generated new interest in the exploration for blind porphyry copper deposits within the main Porphyry Copper Belt.

Under the terms of the Agreement, ASARCO can earn a 51 percent interest by spending US$1 million over two years and making initial property payments of US$71,000. Further, US$500,000 of the US$1 million of exploration expenditures is a firm commitment by ASARCO. ASARCO will also have the option to earn an additional 9 percent interest by funding 100 percent of the costs incurred to prepare a Feasibility Study on any specific property within the West Fissure Project. ASARCO is the project operator and a first phase exploration program has been initiated.

Southwestern Gold Corporation presently has over 22 joint ventures with companies including Newmont, PanAmerican Silver, Teck, Pasminco, Paramount Ventures, Southern Peru Copper, Minorco, Cambior and Cedimin. The Company is exploring for diamonds in Brazil and Canada through its 54.7 percent owned subsidiary, Canabrava Diamond Corporation, in partnership with Kennecott/Paramount and SouthernEra.

MIKE:

Are you referring to actual gold units or GOLD EQUIVALENTS? In the latter case the copper would really add up and make it conceivable that 100,000,000 oz of gold equivalents is perfectly possible.

Mike - I've got to agree with Claude that it is premature to talk about a resource (any defined resource) much less one of such great significance. the property appears to have excellent potential...perhaps fantastic potential, particularly in terms of copper w/ significant gold credits. the grades in places are truly incredible.

but, we should not get carried away. definition of a world-class resource takes a lot of time and dilligent work. even a conservative estimate is not yet in reach.

i am encouraged that Medinah is taking ALL APPROPRIATE steps to prove-up what is actually in the ground. they are not taking a cursory, scratch-the-surface, approach. the Medinah folks are doing this right.

more information will be coming along shortly...the next phase of data collection will allow for the beginning of a resource definition...and i, for one, can't wait to see it! (particulary enticing is the "mantos" on the Dos Marias property!)

looking forward to that which has yet to be determined, tom
