I agree that honor can get out of hand, as in dueling. I think that compassion can get out of hand too, by leading to fanaticism on behalf of "the people", by leading to ill- considered action, or, in the alternative, by leading to paralysis because there is no way to act without hurting someone. I do not affirm all of the excesses of honor, anymore than I suppose you would affirm all of the excesses that might arise from compassion...
