Wise or unwise, that was the deal and both sides thought they were screwed. AMD wanted credit for being a second source and enabling Intel's success (and coincidentally pocketing lotsa bucks in the process). Intel felt that they were supposed to get, in return for the working and profitable designs they GAVE to AMD, working and profitable designs. I come down on Intel's side, but I am biased.
