I have read (in the mainstream press) that in Japan, where abortion is pretty common, there is a big problem with grieving over the procedure, and many women by little plots in Buddhist temples as memorials for the child, and/or participate in absolution rituals. I consider many women who are talked into it victims.....

I'm with you and Neocon here. The issue is whether we value all human life, for whatever reasons (religious, moral, ethical, secular humanist, pragmatic, experiential, whatever). I wrote an article shortly after Roe v. Wade came out on why liberals should oppose abortion. The basic premise was that liberals shoud value human life, and that accepting abortion meant accepting the principle that society could and should decree some human lives of value but others not.
